dhanteras
If Dhanteras or Dhan-Trayodashi, which is the first day of the Diwali festival, is celebrated on October 29. This means that Diwali is celebrated on November 1, the festival will last for six days, adding an extra day to the usual duration. This year, ‘Roop Chaturdashi’ (Udaykalin) will be celebrated on October 31, while the tradition of ‘Deep Daan’ will take place on October 30. Let’s know the history of Diwali It not only marks the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after victory over Ravana, but also marks the much-awaited arrival of Goddess Lakshmi, the harbinger of wealth and prosperity. As families prepare to welcome this auspicious occasion, they engage in rituals that promote gratitude, love and unity, setting the stage for a memorable celebration filled with joy. Children eagerly await the festival of Diwali
For Dhanteras, scholars said that Dwadashi Tithi (the 12th day of the lunar calendar) will last till 10:31 am. After that, Trayodashi Tithi (13th day) will start and will last till 1:15 pm on October 30. Since Trayodashi was in Pradosh Kaal on this day, celebrating Dhanteras on October 29 is considered more auspicious.
However, some scholars suggest that since the Amavasya period extends till the evening of November 1, the festival should be celebrated on the same day. They suggest focusing on Pratipada, which follows Amavasya, instead of Chaturdashi. Pratipada refers to the first day of the lunar month that follows Amavasya.
