Earlier today, Marvel Cinematic Studio revealed the teaser trailer and poster for the upcoming action film, Thunderbolts*. The movie features a variety of antihero MCU characters such as Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Red Guardian (David Harbour), John Walker (Wyatt Russell), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), and Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus). The teaser trailer also introduces some new characters.

Earlier today, Marvel Cinematic Studio released the teaser trailer and poster for the upcoming action film, Thunderbolts*. The movie features several antihero characters from the MCU, including Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Red Guardian (David Harbour), John Walker (Wyatt Russell), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), and Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus). The teaser trailer introduces new faces and shows Yelena Belova expressing her feelings of emptiness and purposelessness to her adoptive father, Red Guardian. The trailer also includes a scene where the anti-heroes – Yelena, Mel, and Sentry – meet Bob, and Yelena deduces that someone wants them gone. The film, based on the Marvel comic ‘Careful who you assemble,’ also marks the return of Bucky.

Thunderbolts* is directed by Jake Schreier and written by Eric Pearson, Lee Sung Jin, and Joanna Calois. Kevin Feige produces the film with Louis D’Esposito, Brian Chapek, Jason Tamez, and Scarlett Johansson serving as executive producers. Based on the Marvel Comics team Thunderbolts*, the movie features an ensemble cast including David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, Geraldine Viswanathan, Lewis Pullman, Olga Kurylenko, and Florence Pugh. In the film, the group of antiheroes go on missions for the government. Thunderbolts* is produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

Marvel Studios started hinting at the formation of a Thunderbolts team within the MCU in 2021. The film was announced to be in development in June 2022, with the main cast members revealed in September. Additional casting continued through early 2023. However, the film’s production faced delays in 2023 due to Hollywood labor disputes, resulting in some actors leaving the project and a few being replaced in early 2024. Filming finally took place from February to June 2024.

Cast

The film will include several characters from previous Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films. Florence Pugh will play Yelena Belova from Black Widow. David Harbour returns as Red Guardian, while Sebastian Stan reprises his role as the Winter Soldier. Other characters include Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Wyatt Russell as John Walker, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Lewis Pullman plays a new character named Bob.

Production Team

The film is directed by Jake Schreier, with Kevin Feige leading the production. Eric Pearson writes the screenplay with Beef creator Lee Sung Jin and The Bear co-showrunner Joanna Calo.

Thunderbolts* will be released in the United States on May 2, 2025. It will be the last film of Phase Five of the MCU.
